Barcelona’s La Liga fixture against Osasuna was called off minutes before kickoff on Saturday.
Barcelona’s recent La Liga game against Osasuna had to be postponed just 20 minutes before the scheduled kickoff time on Saturday after their first-team doctor Carles Minarro Garcia unexpectedly passed away. The tragic news left the entire club in shock.

Players and staff unanimously agreed to request the postponement of the match. Minarro Garcia, 53, had been with Barcelona since 2017. He initially worked with the club’s futsal team before he joined the first-team staff last summer.

“The Barcelona board of directors and all staff extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,” the club said in an official statement.
Club president Joan Laporta described the loss as devastating, stating, “Carles was loved by everyone. He traveled with the team for every game to look after the players and staff. He never said ‘No’ to anyone. He was a great professional and a great medic.”
Laporta further revealed that the club immediately contacted Minarro Garcia’s family and offered their support. He emphasized that the club prioritized the well-being of his loved ones at such a difficult time.
Barcelona stars and other football figures took to social media to pay their respects.

Dani Olmo, who has worked closely with Minarro Garcia, wrote: “Carles, thank you for everything you have helped me with throughout my career. You will always be remembered in our hearts.”
Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid also released a statement expressing condolences. Their star player Kylian Mbappe also shared on Instagram, “Rest in peace, Carles.”
The postponed fixture against Osasuna will be played at a later date, though La Liga has yet to confirm when. Given Barcelona’s tight schedule, the league will likely announce a new date soon. Barcelona currently lead La Liga, sitting one point ahead of Atlético Madrid and three points above Real Madrid.
