All you need to know about Jannik Sinner’s siblings.
When World No. 2 and reigning Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner steps onto the court, one has got to feel sorry for the tennis balls. The 24-year-old Italian is one of the most brutal offensive maestros on tour. A four-time Grand Slam champion, Sinner added Wimbledon glory to his reign as the then best tennis player in the world, making it his 4th final in a row. He defeated Spanish prodigy Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster final that lasted four sets. Although Sinner lost to him in the US Open final, the 2025 campaign was full of highs for the Italian.
Behind every successful tennis player, is a supportive family that has sacrificed a lot. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that fans are occasionally unaware of. Over the years, Sinner has repeatedly stressed on the importance of his team and family. Born in South Tyrol, he started playing tennis at the age of 7 since his father liked the sport. But did you know that Jannik Sinner also has a brother? Let’s find out more about him.
Mark Sinner is the elder brother of ATP starlet Jannik Sinner. He was born in Russia in 1998, making him close to three years older than Jannik. Sinner has previously tagged his elder brother, Mark, as his best friend and a close confidant.
More often than not, Mark is not seen at his brother Jannik Sinner’s matches. He is currently working as a trainer for the fire brigade in South Tyrol, near Austria. He reportedly said in a 2023 interview, “The relationship with Jannik is normal, like that of most brothers. We played tennis – we tried at least. For a few years, I managed to keep up with him. Then he took off and it was impossible to exchange shots.”

After his glorious triumph at the 2025 Australian Open, where he retained his crown, Sinner was open in his admissions. “Having Mark here was maybe the best part of the victory. Nobody knows me better than him. For me, he is an important person. I call him, I confide in him, I know that I can tell him everything and he understands me.”
Yes, Jannik Sinner’s brother Mark is adopted. He was reportedly born in Rostov-on-Don which lies in Russia. At the age of 9 months, he was adopted by the Sinner household. Parents Hanspeter and Siglinde worked as a chef and waitress respectively, and gave birth to Jannik two years after adopting Mark.
Sinner was born on August 16, 2001, in the town of Innichen in South Tyrol, Italy. He grew up in Sexten, which is his family hometown. Sinner’s mother Siglinde has German roots and his father, Hanspeter, worked as a chef when they grew up. In fact, his love for tennis was one of the primary reasons for Jannik to pick up the racquet and start playing the sport.
After overcoming Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling 2024 Australian Open final, Sinner expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his parents. “I wish that everyone could have my parents, because they let me choose whatever I wanted to,” he emoted. “Even when I was younger, I tried some other sports and they never put pressure on me. I wish that this freedom is possible for as many young kids as possible. Thank you so much to my parents!”
