Washington Commanders Streamroll New York Giants to Open Season with a Bang!

The Playoffs News Team

Washington begins its season on a winning note against the Giants!

The Washington Commanders defeated the New York Giants 21-6 at home this Sunday. The team completely dominated the match and did not allow their opponents to score a single touchdown.

On the offensive side, the reinforcements from this preseason shone for the Commanders: rookie Bill Croskey-Merritt scored his first TD in the NFL, while veteran Deebo Samuel presented his calling card with a rushing TD.

Commanders Control Both Sides of the Ball for the Win

After two punts, the Commanders opened the scoring with a pass from Jayden Daniels to tight end Zach Ertz (7-0). The Giants pulled one back with a field goal (7-3). In the second quarter, rookie Jacory “Bill” Croskey-Merritt scored his first NFL touchdown on a read-option play down the right (14-3).

On their final drive of the first half, the Commanders had a chance to extend their lead, but Daniels intentionally grounded with no timeouts and only three seconds remaining. Therefore, by rule, the clock was reset because a ten-second penalty was deducted for the foul.

After the start of the second half, the teams traded at least four consecutive punts. Daniels was evaluated in the medical tent but returned to the game. The Giants added another point on a 55-yard field goal by Graham Gano (14-6), cutting the Giants’ lead to just one possession.

Then the Commanders scored again after two punts. This time, Deebo Samuel scored a touchdown on the end around to restore the Giants’ lead (21-6). In desperation, the Giants suffered a turnover on downs and were unable to score again. The game ended with Washington winning 21-6.

The Washington Commanders will next face the Green Bay Packers, who won against the Detroit Lions in week 1, while the Giants will take on another NFC East rival, the Dallas Cowboys.
