Report: Walker Buehler Signs One-Year Deal with the Red Sox

Charles Taudin

Boston Red Sox rotation is getting stronger with Walker Buehler's arrival

Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler has signed a one-year, $21.05 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

This one-year deal includes a performance bonus worth up to $2.5 million.

The Red Sox’s acquisition of Buehler underscores Boston’s determination to make a strong push in the highly competitive American League East next season.

At 30 years old, Walker Buehler brings valuable experience to a Red Sox team on the rise. Dominant during the most recent postseason, he recorded the final outs of the 2024 World Series, which the Dodgers won 4–1 against the Yankees.

A Strengthened Rotation

Just days after signing Garrett Crochet, the Red Sox have made another big move by adding Buehler.

The anticipated return of Patrick Sandoval in August will further deepen a promising rotation. Alongside Buehler, names like Lucas Giolito, Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello, and Kutter Crawford will bolster Boston’s pitching staff for the 2025 season.

The signing of Buehler represents a short-term gamble for the Red Sox. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022, the right-hander returned to top form this past October.

Buehler’s best season came in 2021, just a year after winning the World Series. That year, he posted a 2.47 ERA over 207.2 innings, striking out 212 batters while walking just 52. He finished just shy of the podium in the National League Cy Young voting.

If everything falls into place next season and both Buehler and Sandoval perform at their best, the Red Sox could become a team to watch closely.
