Thomas Sorber Draft Projection: Where Will Former Georgetown Forward Land in 2025 NBA Draft?

Garima Ranawat

Which team will pick Thomas Sorber in the 2025 NBA Draft?

The former Georgetown Hoyas forward, Thomas Sorber is set to enter the 2025 NBA Draft on the back of a highly-productive freshman season. A Trenton, New Jersey native, Sorber attended Trenton Catholic Academy, before moving to Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in his freshman season. During the sophomore season, he averaged 16.5 points and led his side to the Philadelphia Catholic League in rebounding. He was rated a four-star recruit and opted to play for Georgetown in college over Miami, Villanova and Providence.

However, he spent only one year with the Hoyas but averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2 blocks and 1.5 assists while playing 31.3 minutes per game. His performance earned him the Third-Team All-Big East and Big East All-Freshman Team honors. It is to be noted that Sorber suffered a foot injury and underwent a surgery due to which he was unable to partake in basketball activities on the workout circuit.

Thomas Sorber Scouting Report- Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • A 6’10” lad, Sorber has a strong physique which makes him good at stealing defenders or catching the ball and scoring.
  • His broad shoulders and lower body strength help him in effective finishing through contact with either hand and carving out deep post position. His stats of 57.3% shooting from the field and 72.4% shooting from the line clearly reflect his highly productive freshman season.
  • He knows how to defend the paint without excessive fouling.
  • It can be said that Sorber is a good passer and he moves the ball quickly out of the post, making intelligent reads when doubled.

Weaknesses

  • Sorber often lumbers when he is needed to change directions despite being an on-court hustler. He is required to make progress in this category or he might end up being matchup-dependent.
  • With his 6-foot-10 inches height, Sorber could be considered a bit undersized if he ends up as a traditional center.
  • His foot injury late in the season required surgery and kept him outside of action for the remainder of the year and also forced him to miss pre-draft workouts. It might affect his draft stock. However, the extent is still unknown.
  • He lacks vertical athleticism and is not an explosive leaper which could affect his ability to finish above the rim or contest at the highest point against more athletic players than him.
  • Sorber has shot 16.2% from threes, which has raised questions about his shooting range and touch outside the paint. Also, he doesn’t score much off the dribble and is mostly dependent on others to generate scoring opportunities.

Thomas Sorber Stats and Accomplishments at Georgetown

Sorber finished his lone season at Georgetown averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists. He recorded 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. He made 24 appearances for the team while starting in 23 games.

  • Sorber was named the Big East Conference Rookie of the Year in his first week of the season at Georgetown.
  • He was named to the All-Big East Third Team after his freshman season.
  • In addition to it, the Trenton-born was a unanimous selection to the Big East All-Freshman team.

Thomas Sorber NBA Draft Projection

Sorber, though injured and recovering from his surgery, has solid interest inside the top 20. His defensive impact as well as a team’s long-term outlook might land him at the Minnesota Timberwolves as the 17th overall pick.
