At long last, there is only one day left before the start of the new NFL regular season. The wait is almost over, and as excitement fills the air, 32 teams will begin their quest for the ultimate goal – hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in February of next year.
The season opener, which will be preceded by the Philadelphia Eagles holding their banner ceremony, will then be followed by their game against divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.
Recommended Bets | BetMGM | FanDuel |
---|---|---|
Total Points (Under 45.7) | 10/11 | -105 |
Jalen Hurts 200+ passing yards | 11/20 | -162 |
Saquon Barkley 90+ rushing yards | 7/10 | -136 |
Looking at the first bet with respect to total points, I’m taking the under. The Eagles have a strong offense, while the Cowboys’ defense has been hit significantly. I expect Philadelphia to cruise through the game, but the same cannot be said of Dallas’ offense, especially against the Super Bowl champs.
As for the second bet, Jalen Hurts should have a good day on the field, and with receiver targets such as A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith to throw to, 200 passing yards seems on the card. I’m also expecting Saquon Barkley to run riot over the Dallas defense. If Barkley continues his form from last season, he could start week 1 with a bang.
This week 1 game pits old rivals together as the Dallas Cowboys travel to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia for the season opener. Both teams are entering the season with different expectations after contrasting campaigns in 2024.
The Eagles will look to continue their domination from last season. They have been able to retain most of their stars from the roster that won Super Bowl LIX, while also adding more firepower in the offseason. Look for running back Saquon Barkley to lead the offense and a united defensive effort to stall the Cowboys.

On the other hand, the Cowboys are heading into this matchup after a terrible 2024 season in which they finished 7-10. Furthermore, the trade that resulted in Micah Parsons going to Green Bay will surely be a big hurdle to overcome.
However, starting quarterback Dak Prescott, who missed half of the season last year, is fully healthy once again, which is a positive sign. Prescott has an amazing record against the Eagles dating back to 2021. The veteran signal caller is 4-1 from his 5 starts against Philly and boasts a 71.3% completion rate, 305 passing yards per game, a TD-INT ratio of 16-1, and a 127.4 passer rating.

As far as both teams are concerned, the Eagles have a superior roster on both sides of the ball. If Philly is anything like what they were in the playoffs last season, expect the Cowboys to be in for a rough night.
The offensive juggernaut that is Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith should cause all sorts of problems for a depleted Dallas defense sans Parsons. The exact opposite holds true for Philly, which boasts a superb line of defense throughout.
Prediction: Eagles win and cover the spread.
