Jalen Carter receives fine but escapes further punishment after spitting incident
The Philadelphia Eagles head into their week 2 game following a close win over divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, in week 1. Up next for the reigning Champions is a Super Bowl LIX rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs.
But before looking too far ahead to the game on Sunday, there are a couple of updates to look at involving defensive tackle Jalen Carter and running back Tank Bigsby.
The bizarre incident that marred the start of this NFL season involving Jalen Carter spitting on Dak Prescott has come to the forefront once again. The update received on this matter from the league is that the Eagles’ second-year defensive tackle is being fined $57,222, which basically relates to one game check.
NFL is fining Eagles DT Jalen Carter $57,222 for spitting on Dak Prescott. The league also says the game he was ejected for will serve as a one-game suspension. “After talking to the Eagles, the NFL and the NFLPA, Jalen has decided not to appeal and focus on the Chiefs game,”… pic.twitter.com/2KjRzgJk3K

However, Carter has escaped any further punishment, including any potential suspension. As per the league, he has already served a one-game suspension as he was ejected from the game before a single snap took place. That is excellent news for Philly, which has a tough road game coming up against the Chiefs this weekend.
Reports also indicate that Carter will not be appealing the decision taken by the league, and the Eagles have also made it clear that they will not pursue the guarantees or signing bonus pertaining to his contract.
Another interesting development that took place yesterday was the trade for running back Tank Bigsby. The Philadelphia Eagles gave away two draft picks in the process, a 2026 fifth-rounder and a 2026 sixth-rounder to the Jacksonville Jaguars in order to land the third-year running back.

The move comes somewhat as a surprise, considering the Eagles don’t really have problems with their running back room. The 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, Saquon Barkley, remains the starter in the backfield after a sensational campaign last season. He is well backed by AJ Dillon, who is a quality depth piece, and Will Shipley, who had a strong offseason.

Nevertheless, Philadelphia has decided to go along this route, and the reason for doing so could be to improve its kickoff returns. Bigsby is a capable kick returner, and with the league’s new kickoff rules that spot the ball on the 35-yard line for a touchback, teams are now attempting to return the ball more than last season.
Philly fans have reasons to be excited. The Eagles are not resting on their laurels after their Super Bowl win last season, and quality trades like the Bigsby one just go to prove that point further.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
