The Panthers begin their quest for a three-peat on October 7, 2025!

The NHL’s schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 season is out, and there will be some exciting matchups along the way. Opening night is scheduled for October 7 with a triple header starting with the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers, taking on the Chicago Blackhawks as the first game of the new season.

The broadcast partners for the 2025-26 season include the Walt Disney Company’s ESPN and ABC, TNT Sports, Sportsnet, TVA Sports, and Prime Video. ESPN will broadcast the triple header on opening night, while TNT will jump into the action the following night on October 8 with a doubleheader.

Monday Night Hockey, which belongs to Prime Video, will showcase its first games on October 13, which is also Canadian Thanksgiving Day. Overall, there will be a total of 1,312 games throughout the season, and this year will also see a 19-day break in the month of February due to the Winter Olympic Games in Italy.

Must See Games of the 2025–26 Season

Every year, there are some games that are a must watch. Missing out on these games for die-hard hockey fans is just not an option. So, mark your calendars for some of the top games this season has to offer and make plans accordingly.

October 7, 2026: Chicago Blackhawks at Florida Panthers

The very first game of the season has its own importance, and it will be even more memorable as the two-time defending Champions take the ice just after revealing another banner in front of their home crowd.

October 9, 2026: New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins

This game is a highly anticipated one as we could see the NHL debut of the Islanders’ number one overall pick, Matthew Schaefer, in action. Moreover, if he does play, he would be up against Sydney Crosby, making for one exciting matchup.

October 13, 2026: Prime Monday Night Hockey Doubleheader

Thanksgiving Day in Canada is also the NHL’s debut on Prime Video for the new season, and it will feature a doubleheader. In the first game, the Detroit Red Wings travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs, while the second game features the St. Louis Blues in Vancouver to face the Canucks.

October 21, 2026: Florida Panthers at Boston Bruins

Panthers forward Brad Marchand was traded by the Bruins midway through last season. He joined Florida and went on to be an integral part of their Stanley Cup-winning run. This will be his first game back in Boston since his departure, making it an exciting one to follow.

November 8, 2026: Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs

The Bruins taking on the Maple Leafs on November 8 is a special game. It is the Hall of Fame weekend game.

November 22, 2026: Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers

The 2025 Stanley Cup Final rematch takes place on November 22 in Sunshine, Florida. The Oilers would be out for revenge after losing in two consecutive finals against the same team. Connor McDavid and company will have a lot on their minds heading into this one.

November 28, 2026: New York Rangers at Boston Bruins

The Rangers head to Boston for this game that will take place the day after American Thanksgiving.

January 2, 2027: New York Rangers at Florida Panthers

One of the more exciting games of the year. The Rangers against the Panthers in Florida will be the first of two outdoor winter games that will take place in the home of the Miami Marlins.

January 23, 2027: Vegas Golden Knights at Toronto Maple Leafs

A big game in the first month of the new year as Mitch Marner heads back to Toronto for the first time after getting traded to the Golden Knights this offseason.

While the new regular season is scheduled to start from October 7, 2025, preseason games will get underway from September 20, 2025. Will the Panthers get back to the Stanley Cup Final for a chance at a three-peat, or will another team rise to the occasion? We shall find out the answer to this question and more with the new season kicking off in less than three months time.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
