Brazil’s all-time top scorer makes his comeback for World Cup qualifiers, while key names like Antony and Endrick are left out.
The Brazil squad for their matches in March has been released and the biggest news has been the return of Neymar after spending about a year and a half on the sidelines. They will be playing two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina respectively on March 20 and 25.

The 33-year-old forward last played for the Selecao back in October 2023. He then suffered a devastating ACL and meniscus injury that kept him out for 17 months. He will look to reignite Brazil’s faltering qualification campaign as he returns to the lineup.

Neymar’s inclusion comes at a crucial time, with Brazil currently sitting fifth in the CONMEBOL standings. They are seven points behind table leaders Argentina. Head coach Dorival Junior has expressed confidence in the Brazilian star’s ability to make an impact.
“There’s no need to talk about what Neymar represents,” Dorival Junior said. “He is currently recovering his form, we understand and are aware of this. But we believe his abilities and qualities allow him to be in a condition to overcome any situation on the field.”
Since returning to Santos, his boyhood club in January, Neymar has been determined to get back to form. He has scored three goals in their last four matches, including a free-kick in their 2-0 win over Bragantino.
The coach is expecting that his return to the national team will boost Brazil’s chances. Additionally, his leadership skills might also be needed, as he is expected to reclaim the No.10 jersey and possibly the captain’s armband.
Neymar’s return may have grabbed headlines as the Brazil squad was announced. However, the absence of some key names from the squad has also been significant. Antony left Manchester United as a loanee in January this year. He joined Real Betis for the remainder of the season and has been in good form.
Even so, he was left out of the final 23-man squad. The winger has contributed three goals and two assists in seven games for Betis. However, the coaching staff had to consider several players in strong form, like Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, and Raphinha, so Antony couldn’t make the cut.
Antony’s exclusion also follows a public dispute between his agent and Manchester United over his playing time. His absence from the squad could also impact his market value, as United will look to secure a permanent transfer for the Brazilian in the summer.
Meanwhile, teen sensation Endrick, who is set to join Real Madrid later this year, was also omitted. His performance for Palmeiras has been impressive, but again, with much competition for the positions, the 18-year-old forward will have to wait to represent Brazil at the senior level.
