NBA Summer League Player Props- Rookie Edition

Shubham Singh

The NBA Summer League features some of the best young prospects and NBA hopefuls in the world. While the level of play can differ from the core NBA, there is a lot of exciting action in store for hoops.

And what better way to tip off the SL than in the California Classic? On that note, here are the predictions for the props related to three of the top five picks in the draft.

Dylan Harper Player Props

Harper is one of the most gifted scorers in the current draft. The two-way guard will be in action for the San Antonio Spurs against the Miami Heat. He may end up being the leading scorer among all rookies. During his lone NCAA season, he averaged an impressive 19.4 points per game.

The guard made 6.7 field goals per game on an excellent 48.4% field goal. On the other hand, he connected on 1.7 triples per game on a decent 33.3% shooting. The projections for the Summer League opener point to a  20+ outing with the odds of +110.

But will he get that much? I have some doubts. On the other hand, the odds for hitting more than one triple are +110. I think he may fail to accomplish to do so. Since I can find “Under” for the bet, I’d pass on it altogether.

Here is an overview of my picks:

PickBetMGM Odds
Dylan Harper- 15+ Points-325
VJ Edgecombe- 10+ Points-300
Ace Bailey- 20+ Points+165
Ace Bailey- 8+ Rebounds-105
Ace Bailey- 2+ Three-Pointers-130

VJ Edgecombe Player Props

Philadelphia 76ers’ rookie VJ Edgecombe and Utah Jazz rookie Ace Bailey will clash against each other! This is a fun little battle. Let us first look at Edgecombe’s props. During his sole season with Baylor, the guard averaged 15 PPG, making 1.6 triples per game on an average 34% clip.

Overall, he is less of an isolation threat than Harper, but he can’t be underestimated. Still won’t place a wager on him to score 15+ here. A 10+ points bet can be safe, though.

Ace Bailey Player Props

Bailey doesn’t come into the SL with the best reputation. He should have been the #3 pick but fell because he refused to work out for the 76ers and other teams. However, there is no doubt about his talent.

He averaged 17.6 PPG on an excellent 46% FG in his lone season. He shot just 42% on drives, but his mid-range work was impressive. The long-range shot serves him well, too, as the exciting guard nailed 1.6 triples on a decent 34.6% FG.

One thing that separates Bailey from Edgecombe is his ability to nail contested shots. He has all the shots in the bag, from the leaning floaters to sidestep iso middies.

He will be able to create more for himself, and I’d reckon he can go past 20 points and nail more than two triples. Apart from that, Bailey averaged 7.2 rebounds per game, collecting 2.1 offensive rebounds per game. He can be in for a double-double here.

Hi, I am Shubham. I am currently an NBA Predictions Writer on The Playoffs. I enjoy this job because it helps keep me in the loop about the game I love while fulfilling the pleasure I derive from stats. I got into NBA writing through social media interactions in the mid-2010s as I shared my takes on young talents such as D’Angelo Russell. I hope you enjoy reading my pieces as much as Dennis Rodman loved rebounding the basketball!
