Late drama and thrilling goals define MLS matchday.
Here’s the MLS Daily recap for March 1, 2025, where we witnessed most of this matchweek’s games. Players like Rafael Navarro, Petar Musa, Ryan Hollingshead, David Da Costa, and debutant Wilfried Zaha made difference in the games.
From a high-scoring thrilling draw between Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas to LAFC and Portland Timbers’ late winning goal, let’s see how the teams fared in the MLS action on Saturday night before shifting our focus to much-awaited Inter Miami game on Sunday night.
LAFC secured a narrow 1-0 win against New York City FC. A late decisive goal from Ryan Hollingshead in the 86th minute saw them win. Hugo Lloris delivered a stellar performance maintaining his clean sheet streak with three key saves. Even though NYCFC had 54% possession and 11 shots, they could not capitalize any of those chances after Tayvon Gray’s early injury caused them to lose momentum.
Charlotte FC won 2-0 against Atlanta United in a hard-fought game. Wilfried Zaha and Pep Biel contributed to the scoreline, scoring early in the second half. Atlanta dominated in the first half but they struggled defensively in the second half. Zaha’s debut goal and Charlotte’s swift counterattacks exposed Atlanta’s defense, leading to loss on the road.

A thrilling 3-3 draw was played out between Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas. Rafael Navarro’s brace included a late equalizer. Whereas, Petar Musa starred for Dallas with a goal and an assist. However, defensive lapses from both sides were clear. Those issues led to such a high-scoring stalemate.
San Jose Earthquakes secured a tough 2-1 win against Sporting Kansas City. They managed to win despite playing with 10 men for the final 38 minutes after Hernán Lopez saw a red card. That was thanks to early goals from Cristian Arango and Josef Martínez in the 3rd and 19th minutes, respectively. Dejan Joveljic pulled one back for Sporting KC with a penalty in the 27th minute. However, San Jose held firm under pressure to take away the three points.

Patrick Schulte secured his first clean sheet of the season. New England efforts were clear but they were outshot 9-4 and struggled with just 37% possession.
