Adam Silver confirms NBA probe into Malik Beasley’s gambling case
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has confirmed that the league is conducting its own investigation into Malik Beasley’s alleged involvement in gambling. Speaking after the NBA board of governors’ meeting in New York on September 10, Silver acknowledged the ongoing probe but declined to share details.
“I’ll only say the investigation is ongoing,” Silver said. “As I understand it, there’s still a federal investigation that’s ongoing of Malik Beasley as well.”
While Beasley’s lawyer previously indicated that his client was no longer the subject of a federal inquiry, Silver clarified that the NBA will continue to examine the matter independently. “We will address whatever is presented to us in his case,” he added.

Malik Beasley’s troubles began during the 2023–2024 season, when he was playing as a guard for the Milwaukee Bucks. In January 2024, reports of heavy betting activity on Beasley’s prop numbers raised concerns. According to ESPN, unusual wagers on his rebound totals triggered suspicion and led to a broader probe.
Federal investigators looked into whether Malik Beasley was involved in manipulating bets. His attorney, Steve Haney, maintained in August that while his client had been questioned, he was not facing charges.
Adding to this were Beasley’s financial issues. As reported by ESPN in August 2025, he had been evicted from a rented property due to unpaid rent and owed debts to a marketing agency, a dentist, and a celebrity barber. These financial struggles fueled speculation about his potential motives.
Despite the investigation, Malik Beasley had reportedly been in discussions with the Detroit Pistons about a multi-year contract worth $42 million. According to Sports Illustrated, those talks were put on hold as the gambling allegations surfaced.
While the Los Angeles Times reported in August that Malik Beasley was no longer considered a federal target, the NBA’s decision to pursue its own probe ensures that the matter is far from settled.
The outcome could have significant implications for both Beasley’s NBA career and his potential future contracts.
For now, Adam Silver’s comments confirm that the league is taking the allegations seriously, but no timetable has been given for when the NBA’s investigation will conclude.
I cover NBA at the Playoffs. I specialize in covering breaking news, Previews, in-depth analysis (breaking down numbers, complex stats, nuances of the game, and converting them into reader-friendly content). Furthermore, I got into the sports media while looking for an entry into the media industry. I love International Relations, and since entry without majoring in the subject was difficult, I got into sports. Now, while majoring in International Relations on one side, I also like covering sports as part of the journey as a young Journalist.
