Lamar Jackson comes clean on pushing incident involving fan
The Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens were locked in a battle for the AFC supremacy during week 1 of Sunday Night Football (SNF) on national television when an incident occurred showing quarterback Lamar Jackson in a bad light.
As the Ravens’ quarterback joined his fellow teammates in the endzone to celebrate after scoring a touchdown, he was seen pushing one of the fans in the stadium. But what exactly happened, and how has the 2-time NFL MVP handled the situation after things have cooled down?
During the third quarter of the SNF game between the Bills and the Ravens at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, Lamar Jackson threw a 29-yard pass in the direction of DeAndre Hopkins, who made a one-handed grab for the touchdown, putting the Ravens in cruise control as they led 34-19.
As multiple players raced to the endzone to celebrate, a Bills fan wearing the team’s red jersey was seen giving a shove to Hopkins’ helmet, and followed it with another shove on Jackson’s helmet. In retaliation, the Ravens’ signal caller shoved the fan back with both hands, an incident which quickly became viral.

The fan was immediately ejected from the game and has been “indefinitely banned” from NFL stadiums, as per NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Jackson spoke about the incident with reporters following the Ravens’ practice on Wednesday. The veteran quarterback apologized to the fan, but also had some words of wisdom to avoid such incidents in the future.
“It just happened,” Jackson said. “I got pushed. I’m like, what? I wasn’t even thinking about me being out there on the field. My apologies to him. Just chill next time,” Jackson continued. “You can talk trash and stuff, but keep your hands to yourself.”

Jackson also confirmed that he hasn’t heard about any action the league is planning against him, and that he spoke with the team’s general manager, Eric DeCosta, and head coach John Harbaugh about the incident. As far as he can tell, everything seems fine, and Jackson can focus only on the next task at hand.
Speaking of which, the Ravens will be playing their first game at home this season in their week 2 clash against divisional opponents, the Cleveland Browns. This will be an important game in the grand scheme of things, as both teams have lost their opening week games, and the loser will slip to 0-2 to start off the new season.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
