Alcaraz beat Sinner in four sets to claim his 6th major trophy.
After newly crowned World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz’s titanic victory over Jannik Sinner in the US Open 2025 final, coach Juan Carlos Ferrero has revealed the intense training program that helped his Spanish protege. On Sunday evening, Alcaraz produced a near-perfect performance on serve to dethrone the former emperor of New York 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4 and become a six-time Grand Slam champion. After the heartbreak in Wimbledon, something had to change for the 22-year-old – and it is safe to say that it did.
Alcaraz started the encounter with a whirlwind of confidence, breaking Sinner in the very first game. The Spaniard had a much better read on Sinner’s serve, and generated the perfect depth to prevent the top seed from exerting control over the battle. On the contrary, the Italian was too predictable and impatient in baseline exchanges. It felt like he was being given a taste of his medicine – as Alcaraz was ruthlessly changing direction and striking fierce winners from all over the court.
The contrasting level when it comes to accuracy on serve was also noticeable. Carlitos hit 61% first serves, out of which he managed to win 83% points. This was a massive improvement from All England Club, where he struck merely 53% first serves in and won 75% points on first serve. But according to Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, there was another tactic that prepared his student for what’s to come.
THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED IN THE HISTORY OF TENNIS 😱

Juan Carlos Ferrero is the coach of 22-year-old Carlos Alcaraz. Their partnership initially took shape in 2019, and they soon began tasting success on tour. Prior to Alcaraz, the now 45-year-old coach also worked with three-time major finalist Alexander Zverev. After the US Open, Ferrero revealed one of the huge reasons that heightened Alcaraz’s shot at redemption in New York.
💪 Juan Carlos Ferrero revealed that Carlos Alcaraz had a 15-day post-Wimbledon training block focused on useful tactics against Jannik Sinner:

“I think it [the training block after Wimbledon] was very important. We maybe practised for 15 days, very focused on the details that we have to improve to play against Jannik. We know that on this kind of surface, on hard courts, Jannik is always very difficult to play and [is] winning a lot of matches. I think it helped a lot, because he realised what he has to improve a lot – and I was focused on it.”
Can Carlos Alcaraz end the year as World No. 1? Or will Jannik Sinner regain his lost badge? The race to the finish line is well and truly on.
