As the UFC returns to Mexico City on March 29th, 2025, for a fight night at Arena CDMX, one of bouts causing serious buzz and hype is the middleweight showdown between Joe Pyfer and veteran Kelvin Gastelum. This is one of the Main Card fights that will feature a rising star in Pyfer against a seasoned fight in Gastelum. Both these fighters are trying to make a statement in the stacked 185 division.
Pyfer hopes to break into the ranking middleweight by defeating the veteran, whereas for Gastelum, this will be his 30th MMA fight of his career and he hopes to prove that he is still one of the contenders in the division. With Pyfer’s size and reach advantage he hopes to konckout Gastelum and his chin, which nobody has been able to do so far. While there are many fans expecting Pyfer to finally be the one to knockout Gastelum, it will not be easy and you can easily expect the fight to be decided via decision.

Pyfer went pro in 2018 at the age of 21, and he quickly made waves in regional promotions like Ring of Combat, where he racked up a 7-1 record with 6 finishes, a unanimous decision win, and a loss via submission. His breakout moment came when he finished Ozzy Diaz in Dana White’s contender series back in July of 2022, which earned him a UFC contract. Since his debut, Pyfer has gone 4-1 run, including a vicious knockout of Marc-Andre Barriault, which earned him the performance of the night award and thoroughly marked him as the middleweight fighter to keep an eye on.

Kelvin Gastelum’s MMA career has been a mix of highs and lows, He won the ultimate fighter 17 in 2013 defeating Uriah Hall as a 21 year old. Since turning pro, Gastelum has a record of 20-9-0 in his MMA career, he’s fought notable fighters such as Michael Bisping, Israel Adesanya, Chris Weidman, Vitor Belfort and many more. His fight against Izzy remains to be one of his most impressive and highlight reel type fights of his career, despite taking a loss. Gastelum has bounced around the welterweight division and the middleweight division throughout and has lost many fights in his UFC career, yet his durability (never knocked out) continues to be the main story. So we’ll see if the 33 year old’s chin holds up in the fight against Pyfer.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
