World No. 130 Janice Tjen announced herself at the 2025 US Open, where she made a run through qualifying and reached the Round of 64. The Indonesian’s journey was unfortunately cut short by a former champion in New York – Emma Raducanu. Tjen has an astonishing record of 62-11 in all competitions this year, mainly due to her nearly flawless record on the ITF circuit. At the age of 23, she has already received multiple inter-collegiate as well as ITF Awards. Winning just under 70% service games in 2025, Tjen has what it takes to go all the way in Brazil.

Francesca Jones achieved her career-best performance in three out of the four majors this year. The 24-year-old reached a couple of pre-quarterfinals during the grass court season on home soil. However, her results on the WTA-125 circuit have been supremely impressive. Jones captured trophies in Palermo and Contrexeville, and also reached the final four at Cancun. Currently ranked No. 85 in the world, the Briton has a win-loss record of 45-15 in all competitions. She is searching for a maiden tour-level championship run in São Paulo this week.

In terms of adapting to the heat and humidity, Tjen holds the edge as she is used to playing in Asian conditions too. The 23-year-old unleashed a barrage of forehand winners on Eala in the QFs, and will look to do the same against Jones. The British starlet must adapt by using slices and drops to the backhand wing, which will give her time on the ball and open up the court for her. With plenty of service breaks on the cards, a high first serve percentage will give the players more impetus to get over the finishing line.
Prediction: Janice Tjen in straight sets.
Tjen is a strong favorite and Jones is the underdog for the São Paulo Open 2025 semifinal encounter. According to the implied probability on the money line, the Indonesian has a 77% chance of reaching the final. Given below are the detailed odds (as per BetMGM):
