Germany Star Forgives PSG Goalkeeper; Luis Enrique Assures There Was ‘No Malice’.
Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has offered a heartfelt response after suffering a serious injury during Bayern Munich’s Club World Cup quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The 22-year-old midfielder fractured his fibula following a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The horrific injury has forced him out of action for four to five months. Musiala underwent surgery soon after the incident. He has shared an emotional video message on Instagram five days after he sustained the injury. In the video post, Musiala calmly said:
“The surgery went really well. I’m in good care. And I wanted to say that there’s no one to blame for this. I think situations like this happen.” It’s clear that even though his teammate Manuel Neuer blamed Donnarumma, Musiala has refused to assign blame for the incident.
Musiala added: “It’s amazing to see how the football world comes together in moments like this, and I am truly grateful. I’ll use this upcoming period to recover, both physically and mentally. I’m going to use this time to regain strength and confidence. I look forward to seeing you all again.”
While Musiala chose forgiveness, criticism of Donnarumma came swiftly from Bayern figures. Captain Manuel Neuer and sporting director Max Eberl both questioned the Italian’s challenge during the match. They both hinted at Neuer’s recklessness during the match.

However, PSG coach Luis Enrique defended his goalkeeper, describing him as deeply affected by the incident. During the pre-match press conference ahead of PSG’s semi-final clash against Real Madrid, Enrique said:
“He [Donnarumma] is devastated. He reached out to Musiala. Anyone who knows him knows how kind he is. Injuries happen in football, even the serious ones. There was absolutely no malice. It was clear to see.”

Donnarumma himself also insisted there was no intent to harm Musiala, echoing Enrique’s sentiment during a separate interview. His agent confirmed that the Italy international was left shocked and saddened by the outcome.
Donnarumma is a key figure in PSG’s campaign since 2021. He is also reportedly in talks to extend his stay with the French champions beyond 2026. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich face the daunting task of continuing their upcoming season without their influential playmaker.
