Anaheim Ducks' former head coach Greg Cronin is reportedly eyeing the Boston Bruins' vacant head coaching position.
Former Ducks head coach Greg Cronin made it clear he’d be thrilled to coach the Boston Bruins. Cronin, who grew up in the Boston area, had previously been a finalist for the Bruins’ head coaching job back in 2022. At the time, he was coaching the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. However, Bruins GM Don Sweeney chose Jim Montgomery instead, a decision that worked out well at first, with Montgomery winning the Jack Adams Award before being dismissed this past season.
Speaking to the Boston Globe’s Kevin Paul Dupont, Cronin didn’t hold back his excitement about the idea, saying, “I’d be doing handsprings and jumping over rainbows if I got the Bruins’ job. I’m a Boston guy, and for a Boston guy, that’s hitting the lottery times 10!”

After missing out on the Bruins’ job two years ago, Cronin didn’t have to wait long for his NHL break. In 2023, the Anaheim Ducks hired him on a three-year deal. Unfortunately, his time with Anaheim ended earlier this month after compiling a 67-82-15 record. Despite the losing record, the Ducks posted their best season finish since 2019 under Cronin’s leadership.
Still, while Cronin’s enthusiasm for the Bruins is sky-high, it’s unclear whether Boston shares the same interest. GM Don Sweeney recently emphasized that the team needs to improve offensively, which doesn’t exactly match Cronin’s track record. In his time with the Ducks, the team struggled to score, ranking near the bottom of the league in goals per game, shots per game, and power-play success.
For now, the Bruins are keeping their options open. Interim coach Joe Sacco remains a candidate for the full-time role, and Boston has not revealed who else they plan to interview. Cronin has made it known he’s ready; now, it’s just a matter of whether the Bruins pick up the phone.

I’ve always loved writing and storytelling, and hockey gives me a perfect stage for endless stories to tell. Whether it’s breaking down a game, analyzing a big trade, or capturing the emotions on the ice, I bring the NHL to life through words. So what’s the best part you ask? Watching the action unfold and turning it into something fans can connect with. To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
