Manchester City are closing in on a sensational deadline-day signing in the form of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The shot-stopper is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain and join the Premier League giants. The Italian international has already agreed personal terms with City. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has long been regarded as one of Europe’s top shot-stoppers.
However, he became surplus to requirements at PSG following Luis Enrique’s decision to reshape his squad and bring in Lucas Chevalier as the new first-choice option. Donnarumma, who rose to prominence at AC Milan before moving to Paris in 2021, now looks ready for a fresh challenge in England. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Gianluigi Donnarumma’s move to Manchester City is now sealed.
Talks between the clubs had been ongoing for weeks, but the transfer was finalised after Ederson’s switch to Fenerbahçe was completed, clearing the way for Donnarumma to begin his new chapter at the Etihad. The transfer is reported to be worth over €30 million including add-ons.
Donnarumma has signed a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium and will undergo his medical before being officially unveiled as City’s new No.1. The Italian star had joined PSG on a free transfer from Milan in the summer of 2021.

Donnarumma will become one of the highest-paid goalkeepers in world football at Manchester City, with his new contract reportedly worth €16 million per season plus bonuses for five years. The long-term deal is a sign of City’s faith in the Italian captain to be a long-term pillar in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Donnarumma’s arrival adds significant experience to City’s backline, though questions remain about how he will adapt to Guardiola’s system, which demands goalkeepers capable of building play from the back. While Donnarumma’s reflexes and shot-stopping ability are unrivalled, he has occasionally faced criticism for his distribution under pressure.
Donnarumma is expected to compete for the goalkeeping position with James Trafford, who returned from Burnley this summer in a £30m deal. However, Trafford’s performance came under scrutiny after a costly error in the 2-0 defeat against Tottenham. With a Manchester Derby looming right after the international break, Guardiola will be keen to integrate his new goalkeeper quickly.
