Simone Fontecchio moves to the Miami Heat, Duncan Robinson to the Detroit Pistons.
The Detroit Pistons traded Simone Fontecchio to the Miami Heat in order to sign Duncan Robinson as a part of a sign-and-trade deal. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Robinson has signed a three-year $48 million contract with the Pistons. As per other media reports, his contract is partially guaranteed for the second season and non-guaranteed for the final years. It is to be noted that Robinson recently declined his $20 million termination option.
As Robinson moves to the Pistons, he is expected to fill the void created with Mailk Beasley’s absence. Beasley, the Detroit free-agent guard might remain out of action next season after his recent gambling allegations. On the other hand, as the Heat acquired Fontecchio, they have let go of one of their most efficient three-point shooters. However, the move enabled them to preserve a salary-cap flexibility.
The former Pistons’ star is on an expiring contract with an $8.3 million salary, which is less than the $9.9 million the Heat would have paid Robinson this season. However, as stated earlier, Robinson decided to opt out of the contract and entered free agency. Robinson joined the Heat after going undrafted in 2018 and joining an NBA Summer League. He played five Summer League games for the team and signed a two-way contract with them and Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Since then, he spent his entire career in the Florida-based franchise and maintains a career average of 11.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Fontecchio, on flip note, moved to the Pistons in February 2024 after being traded by the Utah Jazz. For Detroit, he averaged 5.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game in the recent past season. He was shooting 40.2% from the field and 33.5% from the three-point range in 75 games.
As the three-time NBA champions Miami Heat sign Simone Fontecchio, their roster is now at the regular-season maximum with 15 players on standard contracts. The players who now remain free agents from the Heat’s season-ending roster include Alec Burks, Josh Christopher, Isaiah Stevens, and Dru Smith.
Their roster now consists of players including, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier, Davion Mitchell, Kyle Anderson, Fontecchio, Haywood Highsmith, Nikola Jovic, Kel’el Ware, Kevin Love, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, Pelle Larsson, and Keshad Johnson. It is to be noted that Mitchell was earlier a restricted free agent but returned to the Heat before the free agency duration.
