On Monday, August 24, the Dallas Wings (9-28) will host the Golden State Valkyries (18-18) in a WNBA regular-season match-up.
The Wings come into this game after suffering a thorough 60-95 beatdown against the Seattle Storm. Maddy Siegrist had 12 points, but the team’s face, Paige Bueckers, was held to a 2/7 shooting night after a 44-point explosion in the previous game.
Meanwhile, the Valkyries enter the game after a 72-81 defeat against the Dallas Wings despite a 15-point performance by Janelle Salaun. It was another difficult scoring performance as they shot just 37.3%.
The Wings are 12th in the standings (2nd worst), meanwhile, the Valkyries have slipped to the 8th spot.
Can the Valkyries win this much-needed game to improve their chances of making the playoffs? Go through the predictions related to player props, total, and spread here.
Golden State Valkyries
The Valkyries are on a three-game losing streak and are now just half a game ahead of the Sparks, which can change overnight.
They have been brilliant considering their limited resources and injury troubles but need one last strong push to make the postseason. Here are some facts about the team:
Valkyries Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Veronica Burton | SG: Tiffany Hayes | SF/PF: Janelle Salaun | C: Temi Fagbenle | C: Iliana Rupert.
Key bench players: PF: Laeticia Amihere, SG: Kate Martin.
Injuries/Updates: Cecilia Zendalisini is OUT for the game. Kayla Thornton is OUT for the season. Monique Billings can be OUT for a long time.
Dallas Wings
The Wings had a disappointing season after acquiring winning players in the offseason. It has been all Paige Bueckers, and without the team would have suffered numerous 20+ points blowouts.
They are out of the playoffs, but the Bueckers Show makes them a must-watch. Here are some facts about them:
Wings Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Paige Bueckers | SG: Grace Berger | SG/SF: Haley Jones | SF/PF: Maddy Siegrist | C: Luisa Geiselsoder
Key bench players: PF: Myisha Hines-Allen, SG: Diamond Miller, SG: Aziaha James
Injuries/Updates: Arike Ogunbowale is OUT for the game. JJ Quirnley is QUESTIONABLE. Tyasha Harris is OUT for the season.
The Wings are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They have conceded 90+ regularly these days.
On the other hand, they do have the means to go past the mark if Paige Bueckers is on a crazy scoring spree.
On the other hand, the Valkyries are engaged in low-scoring games. They mostly score in the 70s but are also capable of restricting teams in that range.
Thus, this game gives a low-scoring vibe. Choosing “Under” might be the way to go here.
Total: Under 158.5 for -110 at BetMGM
Here is an overview of my selections
Picks | BetMGM Odds |
Total U 158.5 | -110 |
Spread- Valkyries -2.5 | -110 |
Veronica Burton O 11.5 Points | TBD |
Money Line- Valkyries | -135 |
Paige Bueckers O 18.5 Points: Bueckers scored just 11 in the last game, but she was on fire before that. The rookie, averaging a spectacular 19.4 PPG has put up at least 18 in seven of the last ten games.
I see a 20+ points piece here.
Veronica Burton 11.5 Points: The Valkyries guard has been the team’s major scorer since Kayla Thornton’s absence. She is tallying 11.7 PPG for the season but has scored 18.4 PPG in the last five games.
I see her scoring at least 12 here.
Janelle Salaun O 4.5 Rebounds: Salaun has been a reliable rebounder in the absence of Thornton. She is averaging 4.7 RPG and has cleared at least 5 boards in three of the last four games.
I expect something similar here.
Main pick: Veronica Burton O 11.5 Points at BetMGM
The Valkyries have lost the plot after a fruitful period. They have a golden chance to get back on a track that has been horrible in most parts.
Golden State isn’t a high-scoring team, so the offensive freedom against this team can play a big role.
On the other hand, the Wings go as far as Bueckers go. Siegrist has been in great form but not good enough to acquire wins.
At any rate, I expect the Valkyries to add another win here and cover the spread, too.
Spread/Money Line Pick: Money Line: Valkyries -2.5 -110 at BetMGM
