Is Jerry Jones right or wrong, NFL community faces a decisive divide in opinions regarding Micah Parsons' trade deal.
The NFL world is still recovering from the sensational trade that sent Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, ending his run with the Dallas Cowboys. The move stunned fans across the league, especially the Cowboys’ faithful, including franchise legend Michael Irvin. In an attempt to calm the storm, Jerry Jones defended the decision in an interview, saying it was better to let Parsons go after contract talks were inconclusive. He argued that moving on and securing “valuable resources” was the wiser choice. Instead, his explanation only intensified the debate.
While most of the reaction favored Green Bay, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit went against the flow, backing Jerry Jones for making a bold move. Supporting the Cowboys GM, Herbstreit simply said that letting go of Parsons felt like the “right thing.” Supporting Jones’ stand in the trade deal, he says:
“I know it sounds crazy but I applaud Dallas in letting go.”

These sentiments also echo among fans, who were rather unimpressed by the former Cowboys’ pass rusher’s performance. Micah Parsons may have great stats during the normal season, but compared to that, his postseason is not as impressive. Stat-wise, he only has 1 sack in four playoff games. In spite of scoring 52.5 sacks in his regular season career, some fans have noted that he is unable to perform in clutch situations.
Meanwhile, Dan Orlovsky countered Jerry Jones’ confidence, ushering him to come back to reality. The strength of schedule for the Cowboys is much more difficult compared to the Packers. Instead of letting go of a star prospect, the Cowboys should’ve tried to negotiate better contract terms in order to retain him. After all, compared to Kenny Clark (part of the trade deal), Parsons’ sports better numbers.

Concerning the trade of Parsons, the NFL is divided into two camps with less than a week left for the start of the new season. Although, in a sport as unpredictable as the NFL, it is necessary to wait for the bigger picture to reveal itself. The Green Bay Packers look good on paper but their rivals, the Detroit Lions, have been winning the NFC North division for the last two years.

I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
