Who will emerge victorious in the All-American Battle at Roland Garros 2025?
Last year in the Madrid Open, Madison Keys sent Coco Gauff home in straight sets by 7-6, 4-6, and 6-4 in the R16. Now, under the Parisian sun, Gauff gets her shot at revenge. The 21-year-old has been exceptional on clay this season, racking up a 15-3 record and dropping just one set en route to the quarterfinals.
Gauff’s opponent, Keys, riding a 9-3 clay streak herself, has spent nearly 40 minutes more on court. While Gauff leads their rivalry by 3-2, it is the 30-year-old Keys who has had the upper hand lately. So, what will happen when they cross paths again?
Coco Gauff hasn’t forgotten Madrid. But Paris offers a second chance. With a commanding 6-0, 7-5 win over Ekaterina Alexandrova, Gauff has stormed into her 5th straight Roland Garros quarterfinal, making her the 4th youngest in Open Era history to do so. The 21-year-old is now 15-3 on clay this season and has reached the finals in both Madrid and Rome.

Madison Keys, however, arrives in a steady form. At 30, she still carries the spark that once made her a US Open finalist. With 10 career singles titles to her name and a highest ranking of No. 7, the Rock Island native remains one of the most skilled players on tour. As of 2025, Keys holds a 408–225 singles win-loss record and over $21 million in prize money, signaling both consistency and dedication.
Her head-to-head record against Coco Gauff showcases high-stakes battles across all surfaces. Despite trailing in recent rankings, she is currently World No. 8 in singles. Keys has managed to keep Gauff on her toes, winning their last encounter in Madrid 2024 and handing the 2023 US Open champion a straight-sets defeat on grass in Eastbourne 2023. Keys’ big-serving, flat-hitting game can overwhelm even the most agile defenders. This is something Gauff has experienced first hand. With a record of 3 wins in 5 matches against Gauff, including clutch victories on clay and grass, Madison Keys remains a significant threat in their rivalry.
Keys continued her dominance at the 2025 Roland Garros with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Hailey Baptiste. This set up her third straight All-American clash, and this time against World No. 2 Coco Gauff. The 8th seed has yet to drop a set, previously dispatching fellow Americans Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Krueger.

Keys, who holds a 10–9 record in career singles titles over Gauff, trails 2–3 in their head-to-head, but last beat her in three sets on Madrid clay. With a 408–225 career singles record and a semi-final appearance in Paris back in 2018, Keys looks poised for another deep run.
Before winning the 2023 US Open, Gauff came this close to her GS title in Paris in 2022. She performed brilliantly, overpowering Kaia Kanepi, Elise Mertens, and Sloane Stephens. Despite reaching the finals, her dream was crushed by the former WTA No. 1 Iga Swiatek by 6-1 and 6-3. Three years later, Gauff is again at the Roland Garros quarterfinals, trying her luck.

Coco Gauff showed her confidence and dominance on court as she booked her ticket to her fifth straight Roland-Garros quarterfinals.#RolandGarros
She reached the French Open quarter-finals for the fifth consecutive year with a dominant 6-0, 7-5 win over Ekaterina Alexandrova this year. The 21-year-old American, known for her maturity on court, has yet to capture her first Roland Garros singles title. However, Gauff’s flawless start, dropping only 5 points in the first five games, showcases her steady form.
Facing Australian Open champion Madison Keys next, Gauff’s resilience and tactical prowess will be tested. So, who do you think will win this round?
