Noah debuts as captain, Alcaraz leads Europe’s strong Laver Cup defense.
Carlos Alcaraz will spearhead Team Europe at the 2025 Laver Cup, where Yannick Noah makes his debut as captain. The three-day Ryder Cup-style clash will be held from September 19-21 at San Francisco’s Chase Center, marking the event’s first appearance on the U.S. West Coast. Alcaraz joins Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Jakub Mensik, and Flavio Cobolli under Noah’s leadership, as Europe looks to defend its crown against Team World, led by Captain Andre Agassi and Vice Captain Pat Rafter.

The appointment of Noah, the 1983 French Open champion, ends Bjorn Borg’s seven-year tenure as Team Europe’s captain. Noah called the role an honor and acknowledged Borg’s guidance in preparing him for the job. “Winning the Laver Cup is always a challenge, and this year will be no different,” Noah said. “Our team has the talent, experience and the hunger to defend the Laver Cup against a very strong Team World and we are all ready to go.” Alongside Vice Captain Tim Henman, Noah emphasized his goal of instilling team spirit in a roster full of young stars.
Noah inherits a winning tradition as Team Europe holds a 5-2 lead in the overall series after last year’s dramatic win in Berlin. That triumph was powered by Alcaraz, who in his debut delivered a clutch victory over Taylor Fritz in the decisive singles match, sealing a 6-2, 7-5 win that sparked wild European celebrations.
The Golden State awaits.

Alcaraz arrives in San Francisco in peak form, fresh off his sixth Grand Slam title and second major of 2025 after defeating Jannik Sinner in the US Open final. The 22-year-old world No. 1 is expected to anchor Europe’s campaign both in singles and doubles. His presence underscores Team Europe’s blend of rising talent and proven champions, a formula designed to withstand the firepower of Team World, which fields Americans Fritz, Ben Shelton, Tommy Paul, and Frances Tiafoe and Brazilian stars Joao Fonseca and Francisco Cerundolo.

I’m an academic turned sports writer from Raipur, India, specializing in the NFL, MMA, and tennis at The Playoffs. I previously wrote for Sportskeeda and hold a B.A. and M.A. in History. My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
