Meet Carlos Alcaraz's biggest supporters: his parents and close-knit family.
Carlos Alcaraz, current world No. 1, is already a six-time Grand Slam champion. Alcaraz has won every Slam except the Australian Open and claimed back-to-back Wimbledon titles in 2023 and 2024 and the French Open titles in 2024 and 2025. Turning pro at just 15 in 2018, he broke into the ATP Top-100 by 2021. He also clinched a silver medal for Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Much of that early rise can be traced back to his parents – his father, a former tennis player himself, and his mother, who kept him grounded off the court. Together, they built the foundation for the champion the world sees today. The Spaniard contested a third consecutive Wimbledon final in 2025 – only to fall short vs top seed Jannik Sinner. However, he upset Sinner in the 2025 US Open in four sets, winning his sixth Grand Slam.

Carlos Alcaraz’s father is Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez, a former tennis player and the director of a tennis club in El Palmar, Spain. The club was founded with help from Alcaraz’s grandfather, his namesake, who transformed a hunting club in their hometown into a tennis and swimming center.
Speaking to The New York Times about his family’s legacy in the sport, Alcaraz said, “In my family, I think we have the sport in our blood. We all played from the time we were young.”

It’s not just a win for him.

Alcaraz’s father, Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez, has been a director at a local tennis club in Spain for decades now. The club gained a reputation for having the best clay courts in the area after they chose to install red clay courts in the development, even though hard courts would have been less expensive.
Carlos Alcaraz’s mother is Virginia Garfia Escandon. She is a mother of four: Alvaro, Carlos, Sergio, and Jaime, all of whom have played tennis at some point. Jaime, being the youngest, is still playing on the junior circuit. Virginia is often seen in the stands, supporting her sons during tournaments.

After winning the 2023 Madrid Open, Carlos Alcaraz dedicated the victory to his mother by writing “Por ti, Mamá” (“For you, Mom”) on the camera. In his post-match interview, he explained the sweet gesture, saying, “I couldn’t buy a gift for her, so I hope she enjoyed the words.”

Yes, Carlos Alcaraz still lives with his parents in Spain, as shown in the Netflix docuseries Carlos Alcaraz: My Way, released in April 2025. The series captured several heart-warming moments between Alcaraz and his family, including scenes of meals lovingly prepared by his mother. Alcaraz affectionately said, “There’s no food like my mother’s anywhere in the world. That’s for sure.”
