Alcaraz claims sixth Slam, second US Open crown over Sinner.

Carlos Alcaraz captured his second US Open crown and sixth career Grand Slam on Sunday, defeating Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in a clinical two-hour, 42-minute final. With the victory, the 22-year-old became the second youngest male player in history to claim six majors and secured a $5 million winner’s prize. Alcaraz will return to the top of the ATP Rankings on Monday, beginning his 37th week as world No. 1 after leapfrogging Sinner.

Stats, Milestones, and What the Win Means for Alcaraz

In the on-court interview, the champion was quick to turn the spotlight on his support system during the trophy ceremony. “My team, my family, I am really lucky to have you guys, to be honest,” Alcaraz said. “The hard work you do to make me even better, not only in the professional part but the personal part as well. Every achievement that I am [making] is thanks to you, and this one is no less; it’s also yours.” Smiling, he added for Sinner, “I see you more than my family. It’s great to share the court, the locker room and watch you improve.”

Sinner, gracious in defeat, praised his opponent’s performance. “You are doing an amazing job,” he told Alcaraz. “I know there’s a lot of hard work behind this performance today; you were better than me. Enjoy it. It’s a great moment. I tried my best today; I couldn’t do more.”

The final marked the third major battle between Alcaraz and Sinner in 2025, underlining a rivalry that has defined the season. Alcaraz was nearly flawless behind his serve, dropping just nine points on first delivery and hitting 42 winners to Sinner’s 21. Across his title run, the Spaniard won 98 of 101 service games, joining Pete Sampras as only the second man since 1991 to lose three or fewer service games en route to a Slam.

Alcaraz’s achievement also placed him among elite company. He is now the fourth player in history to win multiple majors on all three surfaces, joining Rafael Nadal, Mats Wilander, and Novak Djokovic. With 14 big titles overall, including six majors, he trails only Novak Djokovic as the second active player with the most Grand Slams won. The only gap in his resume remains the Australian Open, where he has yet to progress beyond the quarterfinals.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
