The Gardner family announced Miller Gardner’s passing on March 21.

The baseball world is mourning the loss of Miller Gardner, the youngest son of former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner. The family announced his passing on Sunday, March 23.

“With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation”, the statement read.

The Yankees also released a statement offering condolences to the Gardner family.

“Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss,” the team said. “We grieve with Brett, Jessica, Hunter, and their community of family and friends in mourning the loss of Miller, who had a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality, and a warm and loving nature.”

How Did Brett Gardner’s Son Die?

According to the family’s statement, Miller Gardner died unexpectedly while on a family vacation. He fell ill along with several other family members and passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 21, 2025. ESPN has reported that the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning.

How Old Was Brett Gardner’s Son?

Miller Gardner was 14 years old. He was the youngest son of Brett and Jessica Gardner. His family described him as a beloved son and brother with an infectious smile who loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, and fishing.

Brett Gardner was drafted by the Yankees in 2005 and spent his entire 14-year MLB career with the team, playing his last game in 2021. However, he never officially announced his retirement.
