South-East Asian battle on Brazilian soil.
In the battle between two stars of the future, Filipino southpaw Alexandra Eala will face Indonesian breakout star Janice Tjen in the 2025 São Paulo Open quarterfinals. Eala is on a seven-match winning streak, having won the WTA-125 title in Guadalajara last week. On the other hand, Tjen has one of the most astounding records this season. The winner of this match will face either Solana Sierra or Francesca Jones in the semifinal stage. Follow The Playoffs News and BetMGM for all things tennis related.
Alexandra Eala is currently ranked No. 61 in the world, and she is the face of Filipino tennis at the moment. Eala had her breakthrough moment at the 2025 Miami Open, where she reached the semifinals – beating Ostapenko, Keys and Swiatek along the way. The 20-year-old was also the runner-up in Eastbourne, before defeating 14th seed Tauson at the US Open. After winning the Guadalajara-125, Eala is now into her third QF of the campaign. She has a record of 34-19 in 2025.

Janice Tjen has one of the most impressive win-loss records this year, with 61 wins and 11 losses across all competitions. She will play her maiden tour-level quarterfinal at the São Paulo Open – the 23-year-old is the first Indonesian woman to reach a WTA quarterfinal since 2004. Tjen is on a career-high World No. 130 ranking, and needed just 52 minutes to win her Round of 16 match-up on Wednesday.

Tjen has a knack of racing past her opponents before they can settle into the encounter. The Indonesian likes to hit a high percentage of forehands, and often runs around to hit inside in forehands too. Against Eala however, this would open up the court for her to find backhand winners, which the southpaw enjoys doing. She has the ability to take time away from opposition. Provided she can make amends on her second serve, the 20-year-old is likely to emerge victorious.
Prediction: Alexandra Eala in three sets.
