The new contract is reportedly being structured with a focus on helping Messi maintain his physical shape for the 2026 World Cup.
Lionel Messi is poised to extend his stay with Inter Miami as talks over a new contract with the MLS club have reached advanced stages. The 2022 World Cup-winning forward joined Inter Miami in July 2023 on a deal that runs through the end of the 2025 season.
However, Messi is now expected to re-sign, much to the delight of Inter Miami fans and the club’s owners. Sources close to the negotiations have revealed that while certain details are still being finalized, both Messi and the club are optimistic about reaching a full agreement soon.
The new contract is reportedly being structured with a focus on helping Messi maintain his physical shape for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States.
Inter Miami’s managing owner Jorge Mas, who has been personally involved in the contract talks, recently signaled encouraging progress during an interview with FDP Radio Miami. Mas believes a final decision could arrive within the next 60-90 days. The new deal would see Messi continue his career at the club’s state-of-the-art Miami Freedom Park stadium – a $1 billion venue set to open in 2026.
“The stars are aligning for something great, for a beautiful future for the club and for Lionel,” said Mas. “It’s solely his decision. My hope has always been, and everything we’re doing, is to see Messi play at our new stadium in 2026.”
