On Thursday night, a bulk of WNBA fans were crestfallen after learning that Caitlin Clark would no longer participate in the All-Star WNBA Three-Point contest. She would have entered as the favorite.
However, the groin injury has sidelined Clark from perhaps the most marquee event in the WNBA All-Star event. The fans need not be down in the dumps. The contest features some of the best three-point shooters to have ever graced the basketball floor.
Here is a look at the odds and the prediction for the three-point contest winner.
Venue: Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis
Date & Time: July 18, 8:00 PM ET
Broadcast: ESPN & Sling
This is the second time New York Liberty PG Sabrina Ionescu is entering the event. In 2023, she won the contest after a record-setting 37 points in the final round (The most in both the NBA and WNBA). The sharpshooting guard missed the competition last season
. But in 2024, she made headlines after going up against Stephen Curry in the solo round of the NBA All-Star Three-Point Contest. She lost by just three points (26-29). These numbers speak for themselves.
There is no doubt Ionescu has both the shooting form and experience to win it all. This season, she is making 2.5 triples per game on a career-low 31.1% clip. Still, Ionescu will enter as the favorite for the contest.
Here is an overview of the odds:
Contestant | BetMGM Odds |
Sabrina Ionescu | +110 |
Kesley Plum | +300 |
Allisha Gray | +320 |
Sonia Citron | +500 |
This will be the second time Kelsey Plum is going to participate in the three-point shootout. She last featured in the 2022 contest. She had a below-par performance, finishing with 14 points. Plum finished last among all the contestants in the opening round, knocking her out for the rest of the event.
The guard has nailed 2.5 triples per game on a healthy 35.8% clip this season. Plum is more comfortable shooting pull-up jump shots or step-backs. Thus, a standstill scenario while picking up the ball may not suit her style. However, BetMGM has assigned her the second-best odds.
This will be the second time Atlanta Dream guard is going to participate in the three-point contest. In 2024, she clinched the WNBA All-Star Three-point throne. The lefty guard finished with 23 points in the first round. The final round was a thriller as she edged out Jonquel Jones 22-21.
Gray has made a career-high 2.3 three-pointers per game this season, shooting an excellent 38.1%. Her versatile ball-handling and off-the-ball game provide her the flexibility to thrive in the contest. She will enter as the third favorite, but her odds are pretty close to Plum’s.
Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron will enter the three-point contest during her rookie year. What an early journey it has been. The off-guard has exceeded expectations and shown she can become one of the best long-range bombers in WNBA history.
She has knocked down 1.6 triples/game on a strong 36.5% clip. Her off-the-ball, standstill jump-shooting style can give her an edge. But the lack of experience and the quality of competition make her a dark horse.
You have to go for Sabrina Ionescu here. She is having a bit of an off-year, but the PG is super competitive. This is someone who was deemed worthy enough to go up against the best three-point shooter of all time, Curry.
She went toe-to-toe with him, and her 2023 performance was one for the ages. You never know when one can have an off-day, but not much can go wrong by placing a stake on Ionescu.

Hi, I am Shubham. I am currently an NBA Predictions Writer on The Playoffs. I enjoy this job because it helps keep me in the loop about the game I love while fulfilling the pleasure I derive from stats. I got into NBA writing through social media interactions in the mid-2010s as I shared my takes on young talents such as D’Angelo Russell. I hope you enjoy reading my pieces as much as Dennis Rodman loved rebounding the basketball!
