“Max and Lewis weren’t Fair Either”- Juan Pablo Montoya Questions the 2025 Championship Battle Between the McLarens!

Rohan Singh

How do you stop your championship rival drivers from colliding into each other? Juan Pablo Montoya has some interesting ideas and opinions about the 2025 title contenders.

The stories of the 2025 Formula 1 championship are revolving around two drivers. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are taking away every spotlight this season. Now, the defending driver’s champion Max Verstappen and his title fight is no longer a viable dream. Everything in the upcoming races is going to be centred around the two McLaren drivers.

Formula 1 experts are not shying away from giving opinions on the current Formula 1 season. There are many people who are vouching for Oscar Piastri. However, there are some other critics who feel like Lando Norris has made an incredible comeback and is equally matched to the Aussie. No matter the opinions, one thing is for sure, the hype between the rivalry of the McLarens is easily taking over the sport. For the major part of the season, the two drivers have been playing fair and there were no awkward moments in their championship battle.

Juan Pablo Montoya Mentions the “Unfair” Nature of Formula 1 Champions

While the media outlets stir the battle between the Papaya drivers, there is a chance for them to crash into each other at some point. The community already saw an example of how hard they are willing to fight each other for the championship in the previous weekends.

In Canada, Lando Norris ended up rear-ending Oscar Piastri while trying to gain an edge over him. In Hungary, Piastri nearly had a collision with Norris during the last laps. Juan Pablo Montoya had a rather controversial suggestion to remove any chances for collision between the drivers-

“I think the rules need to be clear. The only way to prevent Armageddon there is to say if you hit your teammate on purpose, we’re going to make sure the other guy wins.”

When asked about either of them leaving the team after losing the championship, Montoya was rather dismissive.

Juan Pablo Montoya also worded some strong opinions against the former Formula 1 champions and their championship battles.

“No, because they both have contracts. Whoever wins would create an awkward situation for a while, but they’ll get over it.
“Was Senna politically correct? Was Senna correct in the way he won races and championships? No. Was Prost fair? No. Was Lewis fair? No. Schumacher? No. Was Max? No.
“What is interesting for me is that you hear Zak saying, this is Lando’s era. It’s an interesting thing because you haven’t heard Zak saying, this is Oscar’s era. He’s always said this is Lando’s era.”

Montoya’s last words raise a rather important question towards team owner, Zak Brown. The team has not publicly supported one driver over the other. Although, a statement like this may end up fuelling debates among the fans.
